Exploring wealth-related inequalities in maternal and child health coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean

Abstract Background Maternal and child health have shown important advances in the world recent years. However, national averages indicators hide large inequalities access quality of care population subgroups. We explore wealth-related affecting coverage interventions reproductive, maternal, newborn, Latin America Caribbean. Methods analyzed representative surveys from 15 countries conducted between 2001 2016. estimated maternal-child gaps using Composite Coverage Index – a weighted average that include family planning, maternal newborn care, immunizations, treatment sick children. measured absolute relative inequality to assess by wealth quintile. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used test association gap attributable risk. Results The showed patterns favoring wealthiest In eight higher than global median (78.4%; 95% CI: 73.1–83.6) increased significantly as decreased (Pearson r = 0.9; p < 0.01). Conclusions There are substantial socioeconomic groups. Reducing will improve for women Additional policies, programs, practices required promote equity.
